My dear friends,

A lot happened.A whole lot. I really want to share a short version of the story that enrolled itself from 2007 and on…

In ’07 I finished my internship only just, on May 15th I officially reported sick and never worked again.

I was submitted to the hospital with paralysis and all kind of weird neurological stuff. Eventually (after 4 weeks in the hospital and a wrong diagnosis with Lyme’s disease) I got diagnosed with MS, multiple sclerosis.

After having had medication for the MS I was admitted to a rehabilitation centre for six weeks. I kindof got back my ability to walk but needed a wheelchair for distances mor than 50 meter. In october ’07 they changed my diagnosis to Devics disease, a brother of MS with many similarities, the big difference is that it all happens in the spin and eyenerves, where MS primarily affects the brain.

In december 07 and febrary 08 I had two relapses. The relapses did some damage to the nerves that tell my legs and bladder what to do. I can still move them, can still stand, but I have big difficulties walking and the neurological problems cause more things: gigantic tiredness and the need to take drugs for various problems. After these relapses I started heavy medication (prednisone and imuran) to stop my body from relapsing again. And up untill now it works, my bloodwork turns out fine everytime we check (at least every 2 or 3 moths).

So now i am considered stable, for 1,5 yrs now. Half a year ago i started graduation from home, I am not able to fully function outside of my home because of severe fatigue, lack of control over my bladder (i use intermittent catheters an a medicin called detrusitol). Bregje and Simon are supporting me with the graduation, I couldn’t do it without them!

So I am in a wheelchair now and happy and cheeky as i ever was :) If you want to know more please don’t hesitate and klave a comment, send a mail or contact me on Facebook.
